valPure® Non-BPA Epoxy

Valspar’s new valPure V70 Series of non-BPA* epoxy technologies represent the future of epoxy coatings for light metal packaging – it offers the universality of epoxy coatings, food safety and preservation, while answering the need for choices in the market and delivering on consumer preference.

Epoxy is a widely used coating type with an enduring track record of performance, manufacturability and brand protection. Traditionally, epoxy coatings were based on BPA. Products in the valPure V70 Series, however, are based on an epoxy resin platform not made with BPA.

The valPure V70 Series goes through a more robust development and safety testing protocol than required by international regulatory agencies. Valspar’s product development framework is a Safety by Design process modeled after preclinical pharmaceutical safety evaluation. Safety by Design emphasizes food packaging safety, international regulatory compliance and provides unparalleled coating solutions with market longevity.

Products in the valPure V70 series provide can makers with a choice of coating solutions and provide consumers with products they can trust. The valPure V70 Series products are non-BPA solutions designed for epoxy-like performance across food, beverage and household product segments and are approved internationally.

  • valPure V70 production involves a type of bisphenol that is different from BPA and is not endocrine active.  Also, this bisphenol is eliminated by the end of the manufacturing process.  This has been validated by independent tests showing no detection measuring down to 0.08 parts per billion (ppb).
  • The valPure V70 Series went through a more robust development and safety testing protocol than required by national and international regulatory agencies.

valPure® Polyesters

As the technology and regulatory leader in the light metal packaging coatings market, Valsp­­ar has developed different types of polyester-based coatings to meet the needs for customers in the food and beverage industry around the world.  Valspar’s next-generation polyester coatings used a functionalized backbone for high-performance products.

The valPure V30 and V60 series polyesters provide good application, fabrication, retort capable and broad pack resistance for beverage ends, D&I food cans, three-piece food cans, closures,  monobloc aerosol and bottle cans.

valPure® Acrylics

Valspar offers a number of high-performance Acrylic-based solutions for the interior of beverage and food drawn and ironed (D&I) cans. The valPure V40 Series continues Valspar’s legacy of innovation for two-piece beverage cans.

The V40 series has excellent application for two-piece beverage inside spray on a wide range of can-making lines and has broad beverage pack performance. It is retortable, acid resistant and hot fillable. Commercialized globally, the V40 series is a non-BPA* technology, and it is acrylamide-free to meet current California Proposition 65 standards.

Valspar’s patented water-based acrylic products for food D&I cans offer a balance of flexibility and pack performance. Acrylics for food D&I cans are available in gold, gray and clear and are suitable for a range of products including soups, vegetable, broth and nutritional beverages.

Valspar’s product development framework uses a Safety by Design process modeled after the preclinical pharmaceutical safety evaluation process. Valspar acrylic technologies were reviewed in the Safety by Design framework.
